Hyperhidrosis Treatments

What is hyperhidrosis? Hyperhidrosis is a condition where people have an increased amount of sweat glands that leads to excessive sweating.

Botulinum toxin (Botox) could be used as a treatment option for heavy sweating…yes yes yes the same medicine used for wrinkles.

Botox is FDA-approved for treating excessive sweating of the underarms. Botox blocks the secretion of the chemical that activates sweat glands.

The patient must be at least 18 years old to get Botox injections for hyperhidrosis, and it should be the last line of defense for heavy or severe underarm sweating. Botox is only advised for severe cases that cannot be treated with topical solutions. Patients with certain medical conditions or taking certain medications should not receive Botox for hyperhidrosis.
