PDO/PCL Thread-Lift

What are PDO threads?

PDO Thread Lift is the latest and revolutionary approach to the bio-stimulant treatment and lifting of the face, neck, and body. It’s based on inserting suture threads made of PDO (polydioxanone) material–a powerful synthetic, absorbable fiber similar to the threads used in cardiovascular surgeries. PDO stimulates the production of new collagen–the protein responsible for the firmness and elasticity of the skin. The tissue where the PDO is inserted becomes firmer, more elastic, and more hydrated. These threads can also shape the face by lifting and supporting sagging structures. They are absorbable and, therefore, will dissolve in 6-8 months. The aesthetic effects last for 12-18 months. We use FDA-registered threads such as Mint, Les Encres, and Nova.

Our main thread provider is Les Encres!

Which areas are treatable using PDO Threads?

  • Forehead
  • Cheeks
  • Eyebrows
  • Around the eyes and mouth
  • Jawlines
  • Neck
  • Hands
  • Forearms
  • Chest and cleavage
  • Hips, buttocks, inner thighs, and abdomen.
  • Specific wrinkles–crow’s feet, frown lines, nasolabial folds, fine wrinkles, laugh lines.

Different types of PDO threads:

Barb threads

These sutures are used for the Lift Technique. These threads have tiny barbs on the entire length of the thread to gather tissue to lift the cheeks and sagging skin where the threads are placed. This technique produces a more dramatic and immediate result. The skin will then build new collagen which will secure the lift and give the lift a longer-lasting result.

Smooth and twist threads

Smooth and Twist threads are smaller than barbed sutures and are smooth (no barbs on the thread) as well as twisted for improved collagen stimulation. These threads can be placed under the skin vertically and horizontally to create a “mesh”. This mesh will serve as the foundation for new collagen production in the skin. The results appear naturally and gradually to improve fine lines and firm the skin. This is great for addressing crepey skin, deep stubborn lines that Botox won’t completely get rid of, as well as for smoothing acne scars.

Are there any side effects?

Discomfort and Pain: One of the top most common complaints and reported “complications” is discomfort and pain. While minimally invasive, thread lift procedures are not entirely pain-free.

Bruising, Swelling, and Soreness: Although it is one of the most minimally-invasive procedures there is the market today, patients do sometimes experience post-procedural bruising, swelling, and soreness. If not the most commonly reported complication, it is still one of the tops. Nonetheless, most reviews and studies have chosen not to define discomfort, pain, bruising, swelling, and soreness as complications

Infection: Another possible complication that may arise from the performing of a thread lift procedure is infection. Despite it being uncommon, infection associated with the procedure can occur.

Post-procedure care:

  •  No makeup or cream for 24 hours
  •  Limit facial expressions for 72 hours
  •  Keep head elevated for 5-7 days
  •  Try not to sleep on your face
  •  No strenuous exercise for 1 week, no facial massage for 1 month.
  • No dentist appointments for one month post-treatment
