How Is a Non-Surgical Nose Job Performed?
Hyaluronic Acid Filler
Hyaluronic acid filler, such as JUVÉDERM VOLUMA, may be injected along the bridge or tip of the nose to:
- Fill dents or depressions
- Camouflage the appearance of a bump/hump
- Create a straighter-looking bridge
- Improve mild asymmetry
- Lift the nasal tip
- Smooth minor irregularities
- Improve certain concerns following surgical rhinoplasty or injuries.
Filler cannot correct breathing difficulties or other functional concerns.
Botox
Botox can be used when muscle movement affects the appearance of the nose. Small, precisely placed injections may be used in several areas of the nose to:
- Gently lift the tip of the nose that pulls downward when smiling
- Reduce excessive nostril flaring
- Reduce muscle movement that can make the nose appear wider or bulkier
By relaxing specific muscles, Botox may create a softer, slimmer, and more refined appearance. It does not physically shrink the bone, cartilage, or tissue.
Threads
Dissolvable threads can be placed beneath the skin to:
- Define and elevate the bridge
- Create the appearance of a slimmer, straighter nose
- Lift a droopy nasal tip
- Raise a flat bridge
Threads do not physically narrow the nasal bones. Instead, added height and definition can make the nose appear slimmer and more balanced.
When Is Surgical Rhinoplasty a Better Option?
A non-surgical nose job cannot replace surgery in every situation. Surgical rhinoplasty may be more appropriate if you want to:
- Physically reduce the size of the nose
- Remove bone or cartilage
- Significantly narrow the bridge or nostrils
- Correct major structural concerns
- Improve breathing or repair a deviated septum
- Achieve a dramatic or permanent change
How Long Does the Treatment Take?
Treatment can often be completed in approximately 15-30 minutes, although appointment length can always vary.
Most patients return to their regular routine shortly afterward. Temporary swelling, tenderness, redness, or bruising may occur.
How Long Do the Results Last?
Botox results typically last approximately three to four months and may require more frequent maintenance. Hyaluronic acid filler and dissolvable thread results generally last one to two years, although the exact duration can vary from patient to patient.
Is a Non-Surgical Nose Job Safe?
Dermal filler injections in the nose are considered an off-label treatment. Patients should understand the possible benefits and risks before proceeding.
Although serious complications are uncommon, accidental injection into a blood vessel can cause tissue damage, vision changes, and blindness. Vascular occlusion can be reversed if recognized early and treated promptly. Do not let anybody inject your nose without knowing that your injector has Hyaluronidase on hand in case of emergency!
A non-surgical nose job should only be performed by a qualified and experienced medical professional with a detailed understanding of nasal anatomy.
What Should You Avoid After Treatment?
You may be advised to temporarily avoid:
- Intense exercise
- Rubbing or applying pressure to the nose
- Facials or extractions around the treated area
- Heavy glasses resting on the bridge
- Excessive heat, saunas, or steam
- Sleeping directly on the treated area
